The rumors are doing rounds that in the near future, Rohit Sharma is likely to be the captain of Team India's ODI and T20 teams and the selection committee will put its final stamp on it soon. Sports website Inside Sports quoted sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) given this information. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will continue as the captain of the Test cricket team.

According to reports, BCCI officials have denied appointing different captains for the three formats but captain Virat Kohli has already decided to step down as captain of the T20 team after the World Cup. He submitted his resignation to BCCI.

Kohli had earlier tweeted the letter on Twitter. In it, he made it clear that he had made this decision. In his tweet, he said that After a lot of contemplation and discussions with my close people, Ravi [Shastri] Bhai and also Rohit [Sharma], who has been an essential part of the leadership group, I’ve decided to step down as the T20 Captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October.”

He further said in his tweet that he will continue to be part of the T20 team as a batsman in the future. Kohli said that making up his mind “took a lot of time.”

Kohli wrote, “Understanding workload is a very important thing, and considering my immense workload over the last 8-9 years playing all 3 formats and captaining regularly for [the] last 5-6 years, I feel I need to give myself space”
