Maharashtra Education Department is considering the proposal of non-state board students taking admission in the junior colleges across the state should get their documents verified from the school principals. This proposal came on the table because of the Mumbai college admission scam. The department is planning to take this measure to ensure transparency in the admission process.
A senior official from the department stated that currently the marks of the state board student are directly integrated into the online admission application once the seat number of the student is entered. This is not the case for non-state board students. They need to enter the details manually and submit supporting documents.
Regarding the document verification proposal, the department is discussing the matter and soon the guidelines will be announced.
Due to the recent Mumbai college admission scam, the education department is planning to take this step. Recently, 47 students got admission into a Mumbai college via fraudulent means. Students have bribed intermediaries to forge documents and secure a seat at the college.
According to media reports, the online process of students seeking admission in class 11 started 15 years ago and since then it is facing several challenges every year. The Mumbai college scam prompted the government to take action against such fraudulent activities and take the admission process seriously, especially for the students who are not from the state-board.
Additionally, plans are underway to include student APAAR IDs into the admissions process for better tracking and verification.
