Icon Star Allu Arjun has teamed up with Tamil director Atlee for a 'spectacular' project, touted to be a never-seen-before sci-fi actioner. The special announcement for the upcoming movie, tentatively titled AA22, was made on Arjun's 43rd birthday on Tuesday. Sun Pictures, the official production house of AA22, shared the video on X. In the video, the 'Stylish Star' is seen heading to the production house's office in Chennai, where he meets director Atlee and producer Kalanithi Maran. The trio is seen engaging in discussions and officially locking the project.
The video also captures their visit to VFX studios in Los Angeles, where they delve into the script with the support of several renowned technical experts from Hollywood. Among them are Jos Fernandez, CEO and Art Director of Ironhead Studio—known for his work on Spider-Man: Homecoming, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Age of Ultron—and James Madigan, a VFX Supervisor who has worked on films like GI Joe: Retaliation and Iron Man 2. Several other top Hollywood technicians are also seen collaborating on the project. Atlee expressed his excitement and said, "This is the film I’ve always dreamed of making. It’s taken years of quiet work to shape the screenplay into something I truly believe in. To now bring it to life with the Icon Star Allu Arjun Sir, under the visionary leadership of Kalanithi Maran Sir at Sun Pictures, is nothing short of a dream come true. The film is mass at its core and magical in its storytelling, crafted to move and entertain audiences everywhere."
This untitled project (for now being called A6) is being made on a mind-blowing budget of Rs 800 crore! According to reports, A6 has now become the second most expensive Indian film ever, just after SS Rajamouli’s SSMB29 with Mahesh Babu. A source close to Pinkvilla said, “Allu Arjun is being paid a whopping amount of Rs 175 crore approx. along with a backend deal of 15 per cent stake in profits for a project being backed by production giant Sun Pictures, while Atlee will take away Rs 100 crore fees for his 6th film of the career. This Rs 800-crore project will cover production cost of Rs 200 crore and a canvas being built on a Rs 250 crore VFX dream. “The makers of the film are leaving no stone unturned to position it as a pan-Indian spectacle with global appeal, and with Atlee at the helm + fresh off the Jawan success- the expectations are pretty sky-high," the source added.
