Emraan Hashmi who turned a year older today has announced Awarapan 2, a sequel to his 2007 release. The movie, which also starred Shriya Saran and Mrinalini Sharma, was a disaster  at the box office, but over the years it has received a cult status and the songs of Awarapan are still loved by the audiences. The actor took to social media to announce the sequel which will release in April next year. He shared, "Bas mujhe kuch aur der zinda rakh… #Awarapan2 in cinemas, 3rd April 2026."

Directed by Mohit Suri, the story follows Shivam (Emraan Hashmi), a brooding hitman working for a ruthless gangster, Malik (Ashutosh Rana). Shivam is sent to keep an eye on Malik’s mistress, Reema (Mrinalini Sharma), but his life takes a turn when he discovers her desire for freedom and love. As he grapples with his dark past and newfound emotions, he embarks on a dangerous journey of redemption. The film, inspired by the South Korean movie A Bittersweet Life, gained a cult following over the years, especially for its themes of love, sacrifice, and redemption.

Earlier, producer Mukesh Bhatt had addressed the growing chatter about the re-release of Awarapan and Jannat. Speaking to News18 Showsha, he acknowledged the rising demand but refrained from confirming anything. “Oh my god! I have been hearing this from everywhere. Yes, people have been approaching me about this. But I believe in giving the audience what they truly want. The demand for re-releasing these movies is strong, and I will discuss it with my team before making any decision." Emraan Hashmi also reflected on Awarapan’s unexpected rise to cult status over the years. “It wasn’t a big success in 2007, but today, it’s my most loved film. Over 20 years, it has gained immense respect. This shows that films can find success over time."
