Bombay High Court on Thursday dismissed actor Kangana Ranaut's plea seeking to quash the defamation proceeding initiated against her by lyricist Javed Akhtar for damaging his reputation by dragging his name in actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death case.

Javed Akhtar had filed a criminal defamation complaint against Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut on November3, 2020, for her allegations against him in regards to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, during a television interaction.

As per the complaint filed by him, Akhtar has taken objection to certain remarks made by Kangana during an interview on a TV news channel.

The complaint stated that Kangana, during an interview to an English news channel, said Bollywood was run by mafia. She named Akhtar as one of the celebrities who were a part of the mafia. Akhtar alleged that the video of the interview was watched by millions on YouTube alone, thereby damaging his reputation, according to a report in livelaw.in.
