Darr, one of the best thrillers of the 1990s, is all set to re-release in the theatres. Yash Raj Films (YRF) announced the re-release of the Shah Rukh Khan film. Apart from Shah Rukh, this movie stars Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol in prominent roles. On April 3, the YRF stated that the movie will be back on the big screen from April 4. Darr was originally released on December 24, 1993. The caption read, "Experience this iconic tale on the big screen again! #Darr re-releasing in cinemas tomorrow. Book your tickets now."
Darr, a psychological thriller directed by Yash Chopra, centres on Rahul (Shah Rukh Khan), who falls deeply in love with Kiran (Juhi Chawla). But Kiran is engaged to a devoted navy man named Sunil (Sunny Deol). Intense and scary moments result from what begins as admiration, quickly developing into a hazardous infatuation. Shah Rukh Khan was a classic hero when he first came to Bollywood, but Darr was what truly showcased his range as an actor. The Yash Chopra movie was a hit in 1993, with Shah Rukh Khan playing his first antagonist role as an obsessive stalker and Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol showcasing their chemistry.
Darr Controversies:
Though the movie was a big hit, but, initially it faced casting problems. The film cast actor Aamir Khan as Rahul, the enamoured lover. He reportedly quit the movie because he and the director couldn't agree on the creative direction. In an interview, he said, "I was going to do Darr, but then I opted out of it for other reasons. It is very well made. Shah Rukh Khan was perfectly suited for the role. The soul Yash ji was trying to put in the film through me...If I were doing it, it would have gone wrong. I don't regret not doing it."
Apart from Aamir, Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan were offered this role back then. They too refused to work on this movie, and later the role was offered to Shah Rukh Khan.
After the release, Shah Rukh Khan’s role of an obsessive lover was praised by all, and it overshadowed the ideal husband role of Sunny Deol. Sunny Deol was not happy with the outcome of the movie.
