Washington [US], June 15 : The 'Lord of the Rings' film trilogy is often considered one of the greatest and most influential film series ever made; however, actor Russell Crowe has no regrets over turning down an important role in the adventure series, reported Variety.

The 'Lord of the Rings' directed by Peter Jackson is based on the novel The Lord of the Rings by British author JRR Tolkien. Being associated with it is not a small opportunity.

The film starred Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Christopher Lee, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Hugo Weaving, Andy Serkis, and Sean Bean.

Russell Crowe met filmmaker Peter Jackson to play the part of Aragorn in his trilogy but he declined to be part of it. However, he feels it was the right decision.

When asked if he has any regrets, he shared, "I don't actually," adding, "I very much felt the studio was making that decision, not the film director. And I talked to Peter Jackson over the phone, and he wasn't saying the sort of things that directors were saying to you if they were trying to attract you to a project. And I just kind of got a sense that he already had somebody else in mind. And me stepping forward and saying yes was actually going to get in his way."

"We come from the same place," Crowe added.

He continued, "So there's a nuance in that conversation that other people might not hear we're both New Zealanders in his own way without him saying anything negative, that he had another plan. So I just left it at that."

Jackson decided to cast Viggo Mortensen for the iconic role. Now, the director is all set to produce a new 'Lord of the Rings' film, directed by Andy Serkis. The film titled 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum' is set for a 2026 theatrical release, reported Variety.
