“I Drew Inspiration From Daya in CID": Mimoh Chakraborty Reflects On His Character from from Khakee: The Bengal Chapter

Solid action and an engaging storyline make actor Mimoh Chakraborty’s new web series, Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, a must-watch. The actor, son of legendary star Mithun Chakraborty, describes his journey of securing a role in the Neeraj Pandey directorial as nothing short of remarkable. “It’s an amazing story. I had worked on a show for Amazon Mini called Revolution, which is also set to release soon. My co-stars from that project, Gaurav Sharma and Happy, shared the casting call requirements with me. I believe it’s essential for friends to support each other in finding work, and I used to send them casting calls too. Happy had a friend among the casting directors, so I reached out, sent a self-test, and waited. Initially, I didn’t hear back and thought, ‘Okay, maybe this one isn’t for me.’ But then I got a callback saying that Neeraj sir’s production was interested. However, I had to wait. Eventually, I was called to the office, where I met Deepak sir, who manages operations for Neeraj sir. He told me, ‘Most of the casting is done.’ I thought, ‘Oh man, I hear this all the time!’ But then he added, ‘If you are interested, we will be too.’”

Reflecting on that moment, he shares, “I was very clear—I told him, ‘Even if you make me a tree in the show, I will be the best-looking tree for you, but I want to be a part of this project.’ After several meetings, workshops, and a look test, I finally got the confirmation call at 10:30 at night. When I arrived on set and was welcomed with a bouquet from Mihika, the production head, I knew—this was my moment!”

Speaking about his role, he reveals, “I play Himel Mazumdar, a key member of the SIT unit in the police force. He is highly driven and motivated. Without revealing any spoilers, he has been in service for a long time, understands the politics, and is well aware of both the risks and rewards of being a police officer.” He adds, “I drew inspiration from Daya in CID because I absolutely love that show. I also took cues from Bruce Banner (The Hulk). As the series unfolds, you’ll see that I am the brawn, the muscle of the unit. When gangsters see me, they should feel intimidated. Since I was acting alongside Ritwik and Adil—both phenomenal actors with commanding screen presence—I had to match their intensity.”
