Mumbai, Aug 23 Bollywood star Varun Dhawan, whose special appearance in the recently released box-office Tsunami ‘Stree 2’ is winning praise, has now joined another legacy film, and this time legacy belongs to the 1990s.

Varun will be seen in the upcoming war drama ‘Border 2’. Actor Sunny Deol, who delivered the box-office smash hit ‘Gadar 2’ last year, took to his Instagram and welcomed Varun on the second part of the franchise.

He shared a text based video with Varun’s voice-over. Varun says in the video, “Dushman ki har goli se, ‘Jai Hind’ bol ke takraata hoon. Jab dharti maa bulaati hai, sab cchod kar aata hoon” while Sony Nigam’s voice on “Aye Guzarane Waali Hawa” serves as a heady dose of nostalgia and patriotism for the listeners.

Varun’s dialogue is eerily similar to the sentiment of Suniel Shetty in ‘Border’ as the latter was shown to be obsessed with Dharti maa. Varun’s character in ‘Border 2’ could very well be the son of Suniel Shetty’s character in the film.

The film also stars Sunny Deol, Siddhartha Chaturvedi, Vedant Raina and Aditya Roy Kapur, and is helmed by Anurag Singh.

While ‘Border’ was based on the events of Battle of Longewala, ‘Border 2’ is presumably based on the Kargil War which occurred in 1999. The conflict between the two countries was mostly limited. During early 1999, Pakistani troops infiltrated across the Line of Control (LoC) and occupied Indian territory mostly in the Kargil district.

India responded by launching a major military and diplomatic offensive to drive out the Pakistani infiltrators. As per official data, an estimated 75%–80% of the intruded area and nearly all high ground was back under Indian control.

‘Border 2’ is presented by Gulshan Kumar & T-Series & JP Dutta's J.P. Films. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, and is set to land in theatres on January 23, 2026.
