Jaat, starring Sunny Deol, has been in theatres for approximately a week. The action film had a promising start at the box office. Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda's film has run into trouble just days after it was released in theatres. The film has recently come under fire for its contentious church sequence, which has upset the Christian community and prompted calls for a ban. The clip in question is from the trailer and features Randeep Hooda standing beneath the cross and above the altar. This has hurt religious emotions, resulting in indignation. Randeep Hooda is seen standing inside a church, behind a crucifix above the sacred pulpit, with members of the congregation praying. It also shows hooliganism and intimidation within the church.

A video showing the Christian community in Punjab condemning the film has emerged online. They are heard chanting slogans like "Randeep Hooda murdabad." The group intended to demonstrate outside film venues, but were stopped by police. They sent a memorandum to the Joint Commissioner urging that the picture be banned, with a 48-hour deadline. They have also demanded legal action against the creators.

Gopichand Malineni (making his Hindi feature debut) wrote and directed the action thriller Jaat, which was produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory. Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda appear in the film, which also features Saiyami Kher, Regina Cassandra, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishnan, Vineet Kumar Singh, Prashant Bajaj, Zarina Wahab, P. Ravi Shankar, and Babloo Prithiveeraj.

The plot revolves around Brigadier Baldev Pratap Singh, often known as "Jaat," who is on his way from Chennai to Ayodhya by train when his journey is cut short by an unexpected accident in a small town near Chirala. When he gets off the train for a quick meal, he gets into a furious argument with Ranatunga, also known as Muthuvel Karikalan, the former Deputy Commander of the Jaffna Tiger Force. Ranatunga now dominates the village with an iron fist, supported by corrupt local police. As Jaat spends time in the community, he notices the terror and suffering that have been ingrained in the lives of its residents. He refuses to stand by and takes action against the repressive regime. What ensues is a thrilling confrontation between the virtuous brigadier and the ruthless warlord.
