Kangana Ranaut and Javed Akhtar End Legal Battle After Five Years with Mutual Settlement

The legal battel between Kangana Ranaut and Javed Akhtar has finally come to an end after five years with mutual settlement. The resolution was formalized before the Magistrate Court in Bandra, Mumbai, on Friday. As part of the agreement, both Ranaut and Akhtar decided to withdraw their respective defamation cases. Speaking to the media after the court proceedings, Akhtar shared.

"After all these years, the matter has finally been resolved. She has apologized for the inconvenience caused to me. I will withdraw my case, and she will do the same." Adding a touch of humor, Akhtar quipped when asked if he felt relieved, "I’ll now find a new problem to tackle."

Ranaut has since clarified that her statements about Akhtar in the interview stemmed from a misunderstanding. With both parties now choosing to move forward, their long-standing legal dispute has finally come to an end. Both Ranaut and Akhtar arrived at the Bandra Magistrate Court at 10:30 am, accompanied by their respective lawyers, Rizwan Siddiquee and Jay K Bharadwaj. The settlement discussions took place in Magistrate Ashish Awari’s chamber and lasted over an hour. Following this, their legal teams completed the necessary paperwork to officially record their statements.

About Legal Case

The conflict between Javed Akhtar and Kangana Ranaut originated in March 2016, during Ranaut’s public spat with actor Hrithik Roshan over alleged email exchanges. Akhtar, known to be close to the Roshan family, reportedly met Ranaut and advised her to issue an apology to Hrithik.

In 2020, following the tragic passing of Sushant Singh Rajput, Ranaut mentioned this 2016 interaction with Akhtar during a television interview. Finding her remarks defamatory, Akhtar subsequently filed a defamation case against her. In response, Ranaut lodged a counter-complaint, alleging that Akhtar had pressured her into apologizing. However, her case was later stayed by the Dindoshi Sessions Court.
