Actor Manoj Kumar passed away on April 4 due to heart-related complications at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. He was 87 years old. Kumar was well-known for his patriotic movies. His nickname "Bharat Kumar" is associated with his patriotic roles and the character he played in the film "Upkar". The citizens of India recognize him from songs like "Mere Desh Ki Dharti Sone Ugel" and "Bharat Ki Baat Sunata Hun". Many politicians and Bollywood celebs are sharing their memories with Manoj Kumar and emotional messages on social media.

Manoj Kumar’s son Kunal Goswami said, "He passed away around 3:30-4:00 AM. He had been unwell for a long time. We were praying for his pain to lessen and for his suffering to end. The doctors made every effort. Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri, along with its staff, provided immense support and assistance, for which we are deeply grateful. They showed great care and love. He endured a lot of pain, but in the end, he passed away peacefully..."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted pictures of the actor from a party event on X. He captioned the post, “Deeply saddened by the passing of legendary actor and filmmaker Shri Manoj Kumar Ji. He was an icon of Indian cinema, who was particularly remembered for his patriotic zeal, which was also reflected in his films. Manoj Ji's works ignited a spirit of national pride and will continue to inspire generations. My thoughts are with his family and admirers in this hour of grief. Om Shanti.”

Actor Ajay Devgn wrote a very emotional message and shared how Maoj Kumar helped his father in building a big career.

He wrote, “Manoj Kumar ji was not just a cinematic icon - he was a personal milestone in my family’s journey. He gave my father, Veeru Devgan, his very first break as an action director in Roti Kapda Aur Makaan. From there, their collaboration continued all the way to Kranti, creating moments that are now part of Indian cinema’s golden history. Manoj ji’s films - Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, Shor, Kranti, they weren’t just films…they were national emotions. His creative genius, unwavering patriotism, and storytelling depth set a benchmark that very few have matched. As Indian cinema bids farewell to its Bharat Kumar - a storyteller, a patriot, and a legend. I also wish to say thank you for shaping my father’s journey and for inspiring countless storytellers like me. Your legacy, Manoj ji, is eternal. Om Shanti.”

BJP MP & actor Kangana Ranaut said, "The veteran actor was also known as Bharat Kumar. He raised the sentiment of patriotism among the countrymen. The film industry is saddened by the demise of such an artist and prays that his soul rests in peace."

Actor Raza Murad said, "I worked with him for the first time in 'Roti Kapda Aur Makaan'. My character in the film was inspired by Havildar Abdul Hamid. Everyone has to go (die) someday... however, Manoj ji's contribution not only to the film industry but to the entire nation... because no one could ever ignite the feeling of patriotism like he did. He had played the role of Shaheed Bhagat Singh in a film. Lal Bahadur Shastri had watched this film and asked him to make a film on his slogan 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan'. So, Manoj Kumar made the movie 'Upkar', which was much appreciated. He had so much knowledge about camera, script, dialogue, music... it feels that he was born for filmmaking."

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar posted, “I grew up learning from him that there’s no emotion like love and pride for our country. And if we actors won’t take the lead in showing this emotion, who will? Such a fine person, and one of the biggest assets of our fraternity. RIP Manoj Sir. Om Shanti.”

Hariyali Aur Raasta, Woh Kaun Thi, Himalaya Ki God Mein, Do Badan, Upkar, Patthar Ke Sanam, Neel Kamal, Purab Aur Paschim, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, and Kranti are just a few of the films that the award-winning veteran Bollywood actor is known for. The actor was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015 and the Padma Shri Award in 1992 for his contributions to Indian film.
