Hamne Gandhi Ko Maar Diya 

The 2018 movie, directed by Naeem A Siddiqui, showcases the intriguing story of two strangers Kailash and Divakar whose paths cross during a fateful train journey. Starring Jatin Goswani, Subrata Dutta, Samiksha Bhatnagar, Pratima Kannan, and Utkarshika Yadav, the film is set against the turbulent backdrop of the partition following the end of the British Raj. The story traces the interactions of the two characters who debate on their conflicting views about Mahatma Gandhi and his philosophy during the journey which coincides with the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. At the end of this fateful voyage, the two characters have tragic news which awaits them at the end.

 

Road to Sangram 

A 2009 Hindi movie directed by Amit RaI, depicts the tale of Hasmatullah, a devout Muslim residing in Uttar Pradesh wherein he works as a mechanic. He is asked to repair an old lorry, unaware that this was the same vehicle that once transported one of the twenty cremation urns with the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi. He takes on the job, but the situation gets complicated when he finds out the truth behind the urns and decides to transport the last remains of Gandhiji. The story shows the unrest within his community who are against his mission and how he tries to overcome and deal with the situation. The film stars Paresh Rawal in the lead role along with Om Puri, Pavan Malhotra, Javed Shaikh, Swati Chitnis, Masood Akhtar, Yusuf Hussain, Rakesh Srivastava, and Manish Pandey.

 

Gandhi 

"Gandhi" is a historical drama based on the life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.The film, a British-Indian co-production, was written by John Briley and produced and directed by Richard Attenborough. It stars Ben Kingsley in the title role.The film covers Gandhi's life from a defining moment in 1893, as he is thrown off a South African train for being in a whites-only compartment, and concludes with his assassination and funeral in 1948."Gandhi" was released in India on 30 November 1982. It was nominated for Academy Awards in eleven categories, winning eight, including Best Picture and Best Director for Attenborough, Best Actor for Ben Kingsley.

 

The Making of the Mahatma

Rajit Kapoor plays Gandhi in Benegal’s bilingual biography titled The Making of the Mahatma in English and Gandhi Se Mahatma Tak in Hindi. The films were released way back in 1996. The Making of the Mahatma has a different outlook on Gandhi as it shows the progression of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi from a barrister in South Africa to becoming the Mahatma. Rajit Kapoor came up with a splendid performance as Gandhi. The movie was helmed by Shyam Benegal

 

Hey Ram 

A Kamal Haasan project, Hey Ram starred Haasan and Shah Rukh Khan, in key roles. The title of the film derives from the words spoken by Mahatma Gandhi in his dying moments. This film was about the political and religious divisions surrounding the Partition and a story of two friends hailing from different religious backgrounds and how the unfolding events affected them. Naseeruddin Shah portrayed Gandhi and it was an amazing performance.
