Legendary Bengali filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta died at the age of 77 this morning, June 10, of age-related complications. He was in his South Kolkata residence when he breathed his last.As per reports, Buddhadeb Dasgupta was ill and was on dialysis for a while. He had also been suffering from kidney disease. He died in his sleep at 8 in the morning. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also took to Twitter to condole the death of Buddhadeb Dasgupta.

She wrote, "Saddened at the passing away of eminent filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta. Through his works, he infused lyricism into the language of cinema. His death comes as a great loss for the film fraternity. Condolences to his family, colleagues and admirers (sic)."Some of his best-known works include Bagh Bahadur, Kaalpurush, Lal Darja, Swaper Din, Uttara and many more. Known for his poems as well, his published works include Suitcase, Coffin Kimba, Sreshtha Kabita and several more. Five of Buddhadeb Dasgupta's films have won the National Film Awards for Best Feature Film, while he's won Best Director for two. He was honoured with the lifetime achievement award at the Spain International Film Festival in Madrid on 27 May 2008.
