Renuka Swamy Murder Case: Actor Darshan To Be Shifted From Parappana Agrahara Jail Due To Security Reasons
In a significant development in the Renuka Swamy murder case, the police have sought permission to shift some of the accused, including actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, from Parappana Agrahara Jail to Tumkur Jail. The police have cited concerns about law and order, stating that it is not safe for all the accused to be housed together. The special public prosecutor (SPP), Prasanna Kumar, had earlier objected to the proposal to keep Darshan and his gang in the same jail, citing concerns about their safety. However, the lawyer representing Darshan and his gang has strongly opposed the police's request and appealed to the court to allow Darshan to be transferred to another jail.
The police claim that there is a possibility of an attack on Darshan's gang, and therefore, it is necessary to shift them to a different prison. The reasons for requesting transfer to another jail are that being a popular actor, many 'know' and there is a possibility of rioting among the inmates. Fellow inmates may attack Darshan. As many of the accused in the case have rowdy contacts, there is a possibility of trying to destroy the evidence through the rowdies. In addition, there is a possibility that inmates will rush inside the jail and fans outside the jail to see Darshan. Therefore, SPP has requested to shift to another jail as a precautionary measure.
While details of who might be targeted have been kept confidential. It must be noted that Darshan, along with two others, is currently housed in the high-security section of Parappana Agrahara Jail. This section consists of six rooms, each heavily secured and reserved for high-profile cases, including those involving the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and bomb blast accused. Darshan's room is strictly off-limits to ordinary inmates, with only security personnel and authorized visitors allowed access. The room is equipped with basic amenities such as an attached bathroom, a bed with a bedsheet, and reading materials like newspapers. However, there is no TV. Visitors are escorted to and from the room by staff, and police presence is constant in the security section.
