Sanya Malhotra’s 'Mrs.' Co-Star Nishant Dahiya Reveals He Recived Abuse Message from Male Viewers Post OTT Release

Sanya Malhotra is getting good response from her recent OTT release 'Mrs' tells the story of a young woman in an arranged marriage who feels trapped by traditional gender roles and a lack of options. She decides to leave the marriage to follow her dreams. Her husband then remarries. The film challenges societal expectations and encourages progress. Nishant Dahiya who plays the role of Sanya's husband, recently revealed that post release he received vivid response from audience.

In an interview with Hindustan times, Nishant stated that, "While women appreciated his acting but disliked his character, Diwakar, the male reactions were especially negative. This suggests Diwakar struck a nerve with them. One particularly nasty message criticized him for taking the role, calling him a bad actor. He shared that the angriest responses, including abusive messages, came from men. He said that if I had gotten this from a girl, I would have understood but I am getting this from men. I think it is more about Diwakar, something they did not like about Diwakar, and it touched a nerve in them somewhere."

Initially, Dahiya rejected the role, recalling a similar character from "The Great Indian Kitchen." However, director Aarti and casting director Mukesh Chhabra persuaded him otherwise. His challenge lay in overcoming his initial aversion to Diwakar and portraying him believably. Ultimately, he was drawn to Aarti's passion and the film's message, viewing the role as a unique opportunity.

Addressing accusations of "toxic feminism," Dahiya maintains that 'Mrs.' advocates for women's agency in choosing their path, be it homemaking or a career. The film's core message centers on respecting your partner's choices and pursuing personal aspirations, not undermining marriage.
