Washington [US], August 7 : Henry Cavill, known for his roles in blockbuster franchises, recently made a surprise appearance in the film 'Deadpool and Wolverine,' but not without enduring some discomfort during filming.

People magazine reported that during a recent interview, director Shawn Levy talked about the behind-the-scenes details of Cavill's cameo as a variant of Wolverine, playfully dubbed "the Cavillrine" by Ryan Reynolds.

Levy explained that casting Cavill was a strategic move to not only capitalize on his talents post-DC, following his departure as Superman, but also to inject a dose of self-awareness into the comic-book genre.

"In the case of Henry, it was not long after everything went down with DC, and word came that Henry was being replaced as Superman," Levy recounted, according to People magazine.

"Given that Deadpool is in constant conversation with culture, it felt like a great opportunity to cast Henry Cavill in a part that he would excel at, while also poking fun at another comic-book-founded movie studio," Levy said.

Levy praised Cavill's dedication to the role, particularly noting the actor's endurance during a scene where he had to keep a cigar lit and in his mouth for an entire day of shooting.

"I remember hearing the next day that Henry was sick to his stomach because he had been inhaling cigar smoke for eight hours straight, but never once did he waver," Levy recalled.

Reflecting on his cameo, Cavill humorously addressed the challenges on Instagram, joking, "To be safe, I shaved the moustache off for this one. Just the moustache."

This cameo marked Cavill's participation alongside other surprises in 'Deadpool & Wolverine,' which included Jennifer Garner reprising her role as Elektra and appearances by Reynolds' family.

Despite the star-studded cast, Levy highlighted the dynamic between Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the film's driving force.

"When you see them as Deadpool and Wolverine, something electric happens," Levy remarked adding, "You're in the presence of icons."

'Deadpool and Wolverine' was released on July 26 in theatres.
