A video circulating on social media claims that a pregnant Hindu girl was murdered by her Muslim boyfriend in Haridwar. The post alleges that the woman was pregnant and had asked her boyfriend to marry her, leading to her death. The video shows a deceased girl’s body stuffed in a suitcase, with a man sitting nearby surrounded by a crowd accusing him of the murder. The post also includes the following claim: "Mohammad Gulsher made his girlfriend Kajal pregnant for the first two years in Jwalapur, Halala, Haridwar. Mohammad Gulsher murdered her after she pressured him to marry her. Kajal’s body was found in the suitcase while he was going to Clear Guest House. The police have arrested Mohammad Gulsher. Hindu girls, change your mind now."

NewsMeter through fact-checking, found this claim to be false. There is no communal angle to this incident. A reverse image search revealed that the video was originally uploaded by TV9 Uttar Pradesh Uttarakhand on March 25, 2022, titled “Roorkee Crime News: The Lover Was Roaming Around with His Girlfriend’s Dead Body in a Suitcase, When the Police Caught Him, He Told This Reason…” The crime took place in Piran Kaliyar, Uttarakhand, not Haridwar. Further investigation using keyword searches led them to a News18 report dated March 26, 2022, titled “Kaliyar Murder Case: Girl’s Body Found in a Suitcase, Boy First Fabricated a Story and Then Revealed the Reason for the Murder.” The report identifies the accused as Gulsher alias Gulbez, who murdered his girlfriend at a guesthouse in Piran Kaliyar. Despite his efforts to convince her, the girl refused to marry him, which led to the crime. He admitted to suffocating her with a pillow and then stuffing her body in a suitcase. The body was discovered by hotel staff while he was attempting to drag it.

A Times of India report from March 26, 2022, confirmed the incident occurred on March 24, 2022. It identified the man as Gulzeb Hussain Ansari from Jwalapur, Haridwar, and the victim as Ramsa Ansari. The report also mentions the names of her father and uncle as Mohammad Rashid Ansari and Mohammad Yunus Ansari, respectively, confirming that both the victim and the accused belong to the Muslim community. Additionally, an ETV Bharat report published on March 25, 2022, titled “‘Suitcase Murder Case’: Lover Kills Woman, Stuffs Her Body in Suitcase for Disposal Over Marriage Disapproval,” states that the accused had planned the murder in advance. The report explains that the girl was from Mangalore and a distant relative of the accused. According to the police, the accused killed her after her family opposed their relationship, and she sided with her family. He intended to dispose of her body in the Gangnahar canal.

Conclusion:

The claim that the victim was a pregnant Hindu girl murdered by her Muslim boyfriend in Haridwar is false. The incident took place in Uttarakhand, involved individuals from the Muslim community, and there is no evidence of any communal motive. This misinformation is an attempt to communalize an unfortunate crime that has no religious angle.
