A viral image circulating on social media claims that U.S. President Donald Trump has replaced Abraham Lincoln’s portrait in the Oval Office with one of Jewish leader Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, also known as the Lubavitcher Rebbe.  He was the seventh leader of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, a Jewish movement founded in 18th-century Russia. The image, which shows Schneerson's portrait on the wall alongside the U.S. and Space Force flags, as well as Lincoln’s sculpture on the table, was shared on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “BREAKING: Donald Trump has replaced the Abraham Lincoln portrait, painted by Edward Dalton Marchant in 1863, with a portrait of the Chabad Lubavitch Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson. THIS IS WHAT I VOTED FOR!” As of the time of writing, the post had amassed over 2,100 likes and 460 reposts.

However, this claim is false. A fact-checking investigation by Logically Facts revealed that the image has been digitally altered, with Schneerson's face superimposed onto Lincoln’s portrait. A reverse image search led to the original photograph, published by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on January 21, 2025. The photo, taken by WSJ photographer Shuran Huang, shows Lincoln’s portrait as it appears in the Oval Office. It was also featured in a WSJ article from January 20, 2025, discussing the office's redecoration after Trump's inauguration day.

Upon comparing the viral image with the original WSJ photograph, Logically Facts found evidence of manipulation, such as a slight overlap of Schneerson’s portrait onto the frame’s left side and a noticeable gap on the right side, both indicating digital alterations. Furthermore, on March 10, 2025, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino shared recent footage of the Oval Office on his X account. At the 0:14-second mark of the video, Lincoln’s portrait can still be seen above George Washington’s portrait in the exact location depicted in the viral image, confirming that Lincoln’s portrait has not been replaced.

To summarize, the claim that Donald Trump replaced Abraham Lincoln’s portrait with one of Menachem Mendel Schneerson is entirely false. The image in question is digitally manipulated, and Lincoln’s portrait remains in the Oval Office.
