Fitness Tips: Ideal Running Speed by Age, Know How Fast Should You Run for Better Health?

Walking and running are effective exercises for weight loss and overall health. However, optimizing results requires attention to pace and duration. Avoid overexertion when starting, as age and other factors influence ideal running speed. According to Lifetime Sky running coach Giuseppe Carona, mile times vary by age and gender.

Carona advises running 4-5 times per week to achieve these speeds. Inability to run a mile at a decent pace could indicate a weak heart and necessitate overall health improvements.

For men, suggested mile times are:

  1. 20-30 : 6.37 minutes
  2. 30-40: 6.47 minutes 
  3. 40-50 7.14 minutes 
  4. 50-60 7.50 minutes.

For women, the recommended times are:

  1. 20-40:  7.49 minutes
  2. 40-50: 8.17 minutes
  3. 50-60: 9.11 minutes

Note: Beginners can alternate between 2-3 minutes of running and 2 minutes of walking. To improve, incorporate hills, swimming, cycling, and other varied exercises into your routine.
