George Foreman, the American boxer and former heavyweight champion, passed away on Friday, March 22, at the age of 76. "A humanitarian, an Olympian, and a two-time heavyweight champion of the world, he was deeply respected—a force for good, a man of discipline and conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name for his family," the family said in a post on Instagram.

Foreman, who lost his first title match to Muhammad Ali in their famous Rumble in the Jungle bout in 1974, became a more rotund, jovial figure when he knocked out Michael Moorer to reclaim the heavyweight crown two decades later. His remarkable comeback, along with the fortune he made selling fat-wicking electric cooking grills, made him an icon of self-improvement and success.

At age 19, in just his 25th amateur fight, Foreman won the heavyweight boxing gold medal at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.
