Popular Lebanese beauty queen, Zeina Kanjo was allegedly strangled to death by her husband after she decided to separate from him. The accused was identified as Ibrahim Ghazal. In the past, the woman also approached the cops and accused her husband of domestic violence. Allegedly, the accused murdered his wife at their residence in Beirut and fled to Turkey. A news channel from Lebanon, Al Jadeed telecast an audio of the accused where he could be heard informing his sister Ruba about the alleged murder.
The Middle East Eye reported that the man could be heard saying, "Ask me anything. By the way, I didn't want to, I didn't want her to die, when she was screaming, I just put my hand on her mouth. Just like she would scream and fight with me in front of you, Ruba. I told her to be quiet and stop crying since it was morning. Would I kill her? "The beauty queen was allegedly murdered on Sunday evening. The accused and the woman got married a few months ago. Soon after the murder, a warrant was issued against Ghazal. Preliminary probe by the Internal Security Forces, led by Beirut's chief prosecutor revealed that the woman died as she was strangled to death. Following reports of her death, social media users posted #ZeinaKanjo (in Arabic) to spread awareness about domestic violence issues women face in the country.
