Mahinda Rajapaksa has been sworn in as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka today. Mahinda Rajapaksa has served as president from 2005 to 2015.

Mahinda Rajapaksa has been sworn in as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka today. Mahinda Rajapaksa has served as president from 2005 to 2015 and his accession to power has come after Ranil Wickremsinghe announced his resignation. This is the first time in the history of the Island nation that two siblings are in the positions of Prime Minister and President.
Wickremsinghe took the decision after a special cabinet meeting on Wednesday a day after he met Gotabaya and discussed the matter. Leaders of the parties that backed Gotabaya during Presidental polls will be given preference in the cabinet.The two brothers are credited with crushing the Tamil Tigers a decade ago to end Sri Lanka's civil war.
