New York Fire Station Collapses Under Heavy Snow; Firefighters on Roof Narrowly Escape ( Watch)
Central New York received several feet of snow last week, starting from February 14, piling up on rooftops. Due to the heavy weight of the snow, the main part of the Barneveld Firehouse in Oneida County collapsed on February 22. This happened after station members discovered structural damage and attempted to clear the snow from the roof.
According to reports, firefighters were at the station around 3 PM when they heard popping sounds and noticed structural damage to the front roof. While some members began removing equipment from the station, others started clearing snow from the roof. A local contractor was called in, and a ladder truck from the Stittville Fire Department arrived to assist.
