Pakistan Finds Rs 80,000 Crore Worth of Gold Along Indus River in Punjab; What’s the Indian Connection?
Pakistan has discovered a massive gold deposit worth Rs 80,000 crore along the Indus River in Punjab, offering a glimmer of hope for the financially struggling nation. However, the newly found gold has a historical connection to India. The deposits were discovered during a government survey in Pakistan's Attock district of Punjab and are estimated to be worth Rs 80,000 crore. This discovery could provide a much-needed boost to Pakistan’s economy.
Geologists believe that the gold reached Pakistan from the Himalayas, carried by the waters of the Indus River. Before the partition of India, this gold was originally part of the Indian subcontinent. The gold is found in the river in the form of small particles or nuggets, which, due to continuous water flow, become flattened or completely rounded. The Indus River is known for its rich mineral resources and is considered a natural storehouse of precious metals.
If Pakistan successfully carries out mining operations and extracts the gold, the country’s gold production will increase, potentially strengthening its economic standing globally. However, only time will tell whether this discovery turns into an economic boon for Pakistan or remains a missed opportunity.
