Pennsylvania Shooting: Police Officer Shot in Pottstown While Responding to Car Crash; Video of Incident Surfaces

A suspect shot a police officer who was responding to a car crash incident on Sunday night, April 6, in Pottstown of Pennsylvania. The shooter hid inside a home after shooting a cop. The incident occurred at around 6 pm near Winding Road and Wilson Street. After two cars collided with each other at around 5 PM, police were dispatched to investigate the accident at the corner of Beech Street and N. Mt. Vernon Street, reported 6Abc Action News.

"At the scene, officers struggled with one of the vehicle's occupants as he attempted to reach for a firearm in the vehicle," the Montgomery County DA's Office said in a statement.

The suspected shooter ran to his home near Winding Road and started shooting and injured an officer after a bullet hit the officer's shoulder. According to the DA office, police returned fire but did not hit the suspect. The injured officer was rushed to the hospital. However, he was reported to be fine and had no life-threatening injuries.

A video of the incident surfaced on the social media platform X. The viral 36-second clip shows a masked shooter pointing a gun at the police, who are aiming at the house from outside. It is learned that the video was recorded by a neighbour, and sounds of gunfire can be heard in the background.

The suspect is currently barricaded inside a home on the unit block of Winding Road. Officials are asking residents in the immediate area of Winding Road to shelter in place until further notice.
