The centrist Popular Action party, led by former President Fernando Belaunde Terry, won the most votes cast on Sunday, with 11.8 per cent of the ballots, reports Efe news.
Keiko Fujimori, who led the opposition Popular Force and held a majority in the previous congress President Martin Vizcarra dissolved last September, came fifth, with only 7.1 per cent of the votes.
Right-wing Alliance For Progress - one of the most voted parties in the country's north - came second with 8.8 per cent of the votes, led by businessman Cesar Acuna.
The liberal Purple Party - with 8.1 per cent of the votes - entered congress for the first time led by Julio Guzman, one of the new faces of Peruvian politics, which together with Popular Action look to be the government's main support.
Podemos Peru, led by entrepreneur Jose Luna, won 7.4 per cent of the vote and will also enter Parliament for the first time, with former army general and Interior Minister Daniel Urresti among its notable members.
The return to congress of the Popular Agricultural Front after 38 years was one of the major surprises. The evangelical party, founded by Ezequiel Ataucusi, won 7 per cent of the vote, according to polls.
The Peruvian left, which comprises four parties, will continue to be represented in congress by the Broad Front with 6.2 per cent of the vote, while Together for Peru could also enter Parliament if it is confirmed that it won 5 percent of the votes.
The far right fared poorly after the National Solidarity party, with former congressman Rosa Bartra as its great asset, obtained only 1.4 per cent of the votes.
The Peruvian Aprista Party of former President Alan Garcia, missed out on congress with 2.8 percent of votes, far from the necessary 5 per cent needed to enter parliament.
The same happened to the With You party of former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, who went from winning the last presidential elections to obtaining 0.9 per cent of the votes.
The exit poll was conducted on 32,000 voters in 405 polling stations countrywide with a 2 per cent error margin for America Television by market research company Ipsos.
