Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned, confirmed Army Chief Waker Uz Zaman during the press conference on Monday, August 5, amid a violent protest that resulted in over 300 deaths in the country.
Waker Uz Zaman said a new government will run the country after discussions with the President. "We will return peace to the country. We ask citizens to stop violence. We will investigate all killings that have happened over the past few weeks," Zaman said.
"No need of curfew or any emergency in country, will find a solution to crisis by tonight," added Bangladesh Army Chief. Zaman said he has asked both Army and police not to fire any shots.
Meanwhile, former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina and her sister arrived in Tripura's capital Agartala. However, there have been no official statements about their arrival in India. Hasina left Dhaka earlier in the day for Bangladesh in the country's military helicopter from Kurmitola.

These come ahead of the Bangladesh Army Chief Waker Uz Zaman's press conference to form a new interim government after speaking with the President. "Representatives of main political parties were present in discussion with Army. Request students to stay calm and go back home," Zaman said.
Former Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty said, "Political leaders change but the countries have long-term interests which will not go away. Bangladesh is a neighbour with which we have had good relations. If you look at the history of India's relations with Bangladesh we have dealt with every government including military dictators. We will be dealing with Bangladesh as it is an important country for us. India will look forward to working whichever new govt comes in Bangladesh."
