Starbucks to Pay Rs 435 Crore After Customer Suffers Severe Coffee Burns

Half a century has passed and Starbucks is still the largest coffee shop chain. But now Starbucks will have to pay a fine of 434 crores because of their coffee. Starbucks has suffered a big blow after a complaint filed by a delivery boy.

A court in California has ordered Starbucks to pay a delivery boy 50 million dollars, or about 434 crore rupees, in compensation. The delivery boy, who was seriously burned by Starbucks coffee, will have to pay this fine. The delivery boy had bought coffee from a Starbucks outlet. However, the coffee spilled on his lap when the lid of the coffee glass was not closed properly and he was seriously burned. After that, the delivery boy had gone to court to seek compensation in this matter. The delivery boy finally won the case and will now receive compensation.

According to the Daily Mail, this whole incident happened on February 8, 2020, five years ago. A delivery driver named Michael Garcia bought coffee from a Starbucks outlet. He had ordered three super-sized drinks. One of the three coffees was not properly packaged. When Michael picked up the tray, the hot coffee spilled on his lap. Due to which he suffered severe burns on his genitals, waist and inner thighs. The video of this incident also went viral on social media.

Michael then went to court against Starbucks. After that, a California court ruled in Michael's favor and ordered the company to pay $50 million in damages. Starbucks reacted to this decision. "We are guilty of this incident. We do not agree with the court's decision. The amount of damages awarded by the court is high. We have always been committed to safety in our stores," said a Starbucks spokesperson. Starbucks has said it will appeal the decision.Open in app
