Shopping malls reopened across Thailand on Sunday after a month as the country began easing COVID-19 restrictions following a steady decline in the number of daily cases.

Besides malls, gyms, beauty salons, museums, pools convention centres also reopened with restrictions on the number of people allowed, reports Efe news.

The night curfew has also been shortened and will now be in effect from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., instead of starting at 10 p.m.

The easing of lockdown measures follows a week of drop in the number of COVID-19 cases.

Three fresh infections were detected on Sunday and none on Saturday. In total, there are 3,028 cases and 56 deaths in the country.

Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand announced late Saturday night that it was extending the ban on the landing of passenger aircraft in the country to June 30.

Thailand had declared a state of emergency in late March and a month later extended to May 31.

It was the first country to record a COVID-19 case outside China, where the pandemic originated in December 2019.
