Democratic nominee Joe Biden has secured more votes compared to any other presidential candidate in the US history, breaking a record set by former President Barack Obama, according to a media report.

The National Public Radio (NPR) reported, as of November 4, Biden had got over 70.7 million votes, more than anyone who has ever run for president.

This count includes 300,000 more votes than what Obama got in 2008, which was the previous record. Biden surpassed the popular vote record of 69,498,516 set by Obama in 2008.

Trump was also nearing Obama's record with 67.32 million votes as of Wednesday.

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is edging towards a victory over incumbent President Donald Trump in the fierce battle of US Presidential elections with 253 projected Electoral College votes.

Biden needs 17 more votes to win the race as counting is underways in key states including Pennsylva, North Carolina and Arizona, according to New York Times projections.

US President Donald Trump, despite winning the big states of Florida, North Carolina, currently has only 214 votes, according to a tally by New York Times.
