Kanpur (UP), July 5 The Kanpur police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a 12-year-old girl whose partially burnt body, with strangulation marks, was recovered from an orchard in Jaitapur village under Mangalpur police circle in Kanpur Dehat district.

The accused has been identified as Bhoora, 27. He was reportedly in a relationship with the girl's mother.

During questioning, the accused confessed to the crime stating that he strangled the girl as she had been objecting to her mother's relationship with him.

SP Kanpur Dehat, Keshav Kumar Chaudhary, told reporters that, "On several occasions, the girl had caught him and her mother in a compromising position and complained about the same to her father, which led to a quarrel in the family."

Bhoora was arrested on Sunday from near Sandalpur crossing in Manjalpur area. The girl's body had been found on Thursday.

"We have booked him under section 302 (murder) of the IPC, and are in the process of sending him to jail after producing him in the court. It emerged during investigation that the girl's mother had an extra-marital affair with the accused. We will question the girl's mother to ascertain her involvement in the crime. As of now, no circumstantial evidence has been found that can corroborate her involvement in the crime. The post-mortem report shows that the victim was strangled," the police official said.
