Muslims around the world, including in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the US, are confused and searching for the exact date of Eid Al-Fitr 2025, as it falls during the Solar Eclipse, also known as Surya Grahan, on Saturday, March 29, making the crescent moon of Shawwal invisible in many nations. Astronomers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) said that today it is not possible to see the crescent moon for the Shawwal 1446 AH with the naked eye or telescopes as the moon will set before the sun and the conjunction will occur after sunset.

Many scholars predicted that Ramadan and Eid this year would likely be celebrated together due to the Solar Eclipse. Eid Al-Fitr celebrates the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the first day of the month of Shawwal, the 10th month according to the Islamic calendar. 

The Muslim community is eagerly waiting for the announcement of the crescent moon of Shawwal that will decide the date for Eid-ul-Fitr 2025. All eyes were on Saudi Arabia, where sighting the moon would decide the first day of Ramadan Eid in the Middle East, including in India and Pakistan. If the crescent moon is sighted in Saudi Arabia (KSA) today (March 29), then the Eid will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025. If not, then Ramzan will complete 30 days, and Eid al-Fitr will be observed on March 31, which is on a Monday, likely with India and other Asian nations.

Australia has already declared the first day of Eid al-Fitr on Monday, March 31, as per an announcement by the Australian Fatwa Council. The council confirmed that the new Moon of Shawwal will be born on Saturday, March 29, 9.57 pm AEST — after sunset on that night. Meanwhile, in Perth, the new Moon will be born on the same day at 6.57 pm AWST, also after sunset.

The UAE will use AI-based technology and drones to search for the crescent moon for Eid. According to the KhaleejTimes, the International Astronomical Centre in Abu Dhabi, Al-Khatim Astronomical Observatory, will use AI-powered tech.
