Many people usually fall asleep after having a full meal; their eyes start to feel heavy, and they feel sleepy. This happens more during summer. People at home are fine and can even take a nap, but people in the office have a problem. After lunch, it becomes difficult to keep their eyes on the laptop or computer in the office or focus on work. Many people start napping while sitting. Nutritionist Ryan Fernando explains in an Instagram video how to combat post-lunch sleepiness, also known as Post-Lunch Dip, which he attributes to eating heavy meals.
According to the nutritionist, "People often eat rice, oily vegetables, or something sweet for lunch. After eating all this, our blood flow shifts to the stomach for digestion, and the brain gets less oxygen. Also, in this condition, insulin increases, which activates natural sleep hormones called melatonin and serotonin. When sleep hormones become active, you start feeling sleepy."
How to sleep?
The doctor said, "You can easily control the laziness and sleepiness that comes after meals. For this, you will have to make a small change in your lunch. Include things with protein and fiber in lunch."
According to nutritionists, you can eat grilled cheese, salad, brown rice for lunch. Also, walk for 5 to 10 minutes after lunch. By doing this, the body will get energy immediately, and you will be able to do your work faster. This little trick can help you get rid of your afternoon sleepiness.
