Scenes/Unseen Artist: Mridul Chandra Mesmerizes Mumbai with Hampi-Inspired Art

Acclaimed artist Mridul Chandra’s latest solo exhibition, Scenes/Unseen, opened to an overwhelming response at Jehangir Art Gallery (Hirji Gallery), Mumbai. Inaugurated by Mr. Rajendra Patil, President of The Bombay Art Society and Founder of India Art Festival, the exhibition drew art enthusiasts, collectors, and critics alike, all captivated by Chandra’s evocative depictions of the seen and unseen worlds. The highlight of the exhibition was Chandra’s striking collection inspired by Hampi—a series that transported viewers into the mystical ruins and ethereal landscapes of the ancient city. Through her masterful use of watercolours, acrylics, and oils, she infused the compositions with an otherworldly essence, blending fluid washes, intricate brushwork, and earthy tones. The juxtaposition of light and shadow in her work created a captivating interplay between history and abstraction, leaving the audience spellbound.

Reflecting on the overwhelming response, Chandra shared, “It has been heartening to see such an emotional connection between my art and the audience. Hampi, with its grandeur and spiritual energy, has always fascinated me, and I wanted to capture that essence on canvas. Seeing viewers resonate with those emotions has been truly fulfilling.” Art critics praised Chandra’s ability to evoke depth and emotion through her compositions, with many lauding her roller technique that seamlessly merges structure and fluidity. Visitors engaged deeply with her works, some interpreting them as visual poetry that bridged time, space, and personal introspection. The exhibition, running until April 6, 2025, continues to draw an enthusiastic crowd, with discussions, interpretations, and admiration filling the gallery. Scenes/Unseen is not just an exhibition; it is an invitation to explore the depths of perception and uncover beauty in the unnoticed layers of life.
