The Ladki Bahin Yojana, introduced during the Maharashtra Assembly elections, played a significant role in the Mahayuti alliance's victory last November. Initially, the scheme promised Rs 1,500 per month to eligible women whose income is less than 1lakh. However, recent reports and opposition claims have sparked rumours that the scheme may soon be discontinued.
Adding to the uncertainty, Finance Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar did not allocate full financial provisions for the scheme in the recently presented state budget. Due to this, the monthly payout is now expected to be Rs 1,500 instead of Rs 2,500. Opposition parties have accused the government of planning to discontinue the scheme altogether.
What DCM Ajit Pawar Said?
Addressing the Maharashtra Assembly today, Ajit Pawar dismissed rumors about the scheme’s closure. He assured that Ladki Bahin Yojana would continue, though with certain modifications. "The money given under the Ladki Bahin scheme so far will not be taken back. We will not withdraw any financial support already provided to women beneficiaries. This scheme will continue, and we will allocate the necessary funds," he stated.

However, he emphasized that the scheme is specifically for economically disadvantaged women. "Sometimes, after implementing a scheme, we identify areas that need improvement. Based on this, we will make amendments to the Ladki Bahin Yojana. But let me make it clear—we will not shut it down. We will not do injustice to any poor woman. Those who truly need financial assistance will receive 100% support from the government," he added.
