Beggars will no longer be seen begging at the crossroads or at the signal. This is because the Mumbai Police has launched a huge operation to nab the beggars and accommodated them in Beggars' Home in Chembur.

Mumbai's Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Vishwas Nangare Patil has taken the initiative to make the city Mumbai “begging free”. He has written to senior police inspectors of all police stations in Mumbai, ordering them to launch a crackdown on beggars on the streets. Importantly, the beggars who are caught will also have to undergo coronavirus test.

A crackdown on beggars has already begun and 14 beggars have been arrested from Mumbai's Azad Maidan police station and will be produced in Bhoiwada court.

In addition, after doing their corona test, they will be accommodated at the Beggars' Home in Chembur. Further action will be taken as per the directions of the court after appearing in court. Meanwhile, the anti-begging campaign launched by the Mumbai Police will be held throughout February.
