Drought Crisis Escalates in Maharashtra: Surge in Water Tanker Deployments

The water crisis in Maharashtra deepens as dam levels plummet to alarming lows. With only 20.39% water remaining in the state's dams, a stark increase from last year's 350, a staggering 4,011 tankers have been mobilized to provide water to villages and hamlets. Marathwada, particularly Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division, faces dire circumstances with a mere 8.22% water left in its dams compared to 33.01% last year. Pune division follows closely behind with just 13.15% water storage.

Nagpur division stands out with the highest water storage at 37.49%. The crisis is most acute in Marathwada, where 2,012 tankers serve 1,392 villages and 575 hamlets. Nashik division utilizes 868 tankers for 348 villages and 1,877 hamlets, with Nashik and Ahmednagar districts leading in tanker usage.

Pune division operates 831 tankers for 684 villages and 4,055 hamlets, with Satara, Pune, and Solapur districts facing the brunt. Surprisingly, Vidarbha region, comprising Amravati and Nagpur divisions, has only 118 tankers in use. The government is closely monitoring the situation, recognizing the severity of the crisis.
