Eggs to cost Rs.90 a dozen in Mumbai
The retail price of eggs in Mumbai has gone up, breaking all previous records, mainly due to higher demand, rise in input cost and inadequate supply. According to a Times Now report, dozen egg was selling for Rs 90 in many parts of Mumbai.Traders in places like Andheri, Lokhandwala and Bandra among other places started selling eggs for Rs 90 from Saturday onwards. In the past two weeks, the price of a dozen eggs has increased by around Rs 12.
The egg prices normally see a rise during the winter season. But, according to traders, the long spell of cold waves in northern states this year has shot up the demand for eggs in an unprecedented manner. Due to the surge in demand, the regular supply of eggs to Mumbai city has now been diverted to the northern states, resulting in a shortage in Maharashtra's capital city. The higher price is expected to continue for a few more weeks and will go down only in February.
