Ganeshotsav, everyone's favorite festival, is just around the corner, and preparations for Ganapati Bappa's arrival are in full swing. Ganesha Mandals are busy welcoming Bappa with decorations, prasad, and organizing the procession. Some devotees observe meat and alcohol abstinence during the festival. To prevent disorder related to alcohol consumption, the district collector has imposed a liquor ban in Ratnagiri on Shri Ganesh Chaturthi, Saturday, September 7.

Collector M. Devender Singh has mandated a three-day liquor ban during the festival, closing all retail and toddy sales on September 7 for Ganesh Chaturthi, September 12 for Jyestha Gauri Visarjan, and September 17 for Anant Chaturdashi. This decision aims to maintain peace and order during Ganeshotsav, which runs from September 7 to September 17, 2024.

Strict Action Will Be Taken

The order must be strictly enforced, and action will be taken against any license holders violating it, in accordance with the Bombay Liquor Prohibition Act, 1949. This measure aims to prevent unruly behavior during the Ganesh procession. Shopkeepers selling alcohol secretly will also face consequences. The festival, celebrated with great devotion by all, from children to adults, is highly anticipated. Ganesha devotees across the district welcome Collector Singh's decision, prioritizing the festival's sanctity and peace.
