The heatwave has intensified across Maharashtra, with Vidarbha recording the highest temperatures in the country. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Akola reported the highest temperature on January 18. Maximum temperatures have risen significantly, with Central Maharashtra experiencing above-normal temperatures. Most places recorded temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius, leaving residents struggling with the heat.
According to the IMD, light rain is expected in East and West Vidarbha over the next two days, followed by Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada on February 23. The minimum temperature in Vidarbha is likely to decrease slightly over the next three days.

The IMD has also issued a warning for heavy rainfall in 13 states due to a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. Light rain and snowfall are expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on February 17-18, with thunderstorms and lightning likely on February 19-20.
In southern Maharashtra, maximum temperatures are expected to rise by 1-2 degrees Celsius over the next 2-3 days, with no major changes anticipated afterward. In Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada, minimum temperatures will remain stable over the next 24 hours, while northern Maharashtra is expected to see a drop of 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next three days. In Vidarbha, maximum temperatures will remain steady for the next five days, while minimum temperatures are expected to drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius after three days.
