While the government had appealed not to light firecrackers on Diwali due to corona, some people didn't pay heed to the appeal and bursted loud firecrackers in Shivajinagar area of Kalyan in Thane district.

In a shocking incident, a youth requested his neighbors to not burst loud fire crackers in front of his house as he had grandmother and a littly boy in his house who were getting affected by the noise and pollution.

His request didn't go down well with the neighbors after which they assaulted the young man along with his mother and grandmother.

The victim identified, Abhijeet Waghmare, from Shivajinagar, was at home on Diwali. At around 10 pm on November 16, youths living next to his house started bursting loud firecrackers near his house. The noise and pollution of the crackers were coming into Waghmare's house through the window. He told the neighbors not to burst fireworks which angered them.

Seeing his son getting beatn up by the neighbors, Waghmare's mother ran to his rescue. The neighbor also assaulted his mother and grandmother.

Abhiji's mother Usha is an employee of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation. Waghmare has lodged a complaint at Mahatma Phule Police Station. Preventive action has been taken against the accused. Assistant Commissioner of Police Anil Powar has informed that further action will be taken as soon as the medical certificate is received. Bhushan Pawar and Dinesh Sawant, office bearers of Marathi Unification Committee, have demanded action against the accused in the case of beating of a Marathi family.
