Kalyan: Woman Dies After Injection at KDMC Hospital; Family Alleges Medical Negligence
While the case of Tanisha Bhise’s death due to alleged negligence at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune is still under scrutiny, a shocking incident has come to light from Kalyan district in Maharashtra. At the Shaktidham Maternity Hospital in Kalyan East, which is run by the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), a 30-year-old woman named Shantidevi Akhilesh Maurya was admitted for an abortion and a family planning surgery.
However, her health deteriorated even before the procedure could be performed. She was administered an injection, and tragically, she passed away on the way while being transferred to a private hospital. Her husband and family members have alleged that doctors at the maternity hospital are responsible for her death.

Shockingly, it has come to light that this maternity hospital does not even have an ICU facility. KDMC doctors have claimed that no negligence was involved and that the exact cause of death will be known only after the postmortem report is received.
“I had brought my wife, Shantidevi Maurya, here for surgery. I wasn’t allowed to see her since morning, and suddenly, at 3 pm, the operation was started. But the procedure never happened. She died due to the injection. I only request that those responsible for her death be punished,” said her husband.
Notably, just two months ago, a pregnant woman named Suvarna Sarode died during childbirth at KDMC’s Shastrinagar Hospital in Dombivli. In that case, two doctors were suspended by the municipal corporation, and a criminal case was filed against them at the police station.
Suvarna, a resident of Motgaon in Dombivli West, underwent a caesarean section. After the operation, her health worsened, and doctors advised that she be shifted to Sion Hospital in Mumbai. Unfortunately, she died due to excessive bleeding. According to her family, her uterus was removed during the operation without her consent. At the time, protests were held locally against the hospital and its doctors. Now, barely a month later, another tragic incident has occurred.
