The shocking news of a fake vaccination drive at the Hiranandani Estate Society in Kandivali has creaated a stir. The scandal has created confusion in housing societies about vaccination. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on June 16 said it has ordered an inquiry into an alleged fake vaccination drive at a housing society in Kandivali where 390 residents were vaccinated in suspicious manner. The fact-finding report to be submitted within 48 hours.

The residents of the society have claimed that they were the victims of an elaborate “vaccination scam”, in which they were given fake Covid-19 shots. On May 30, the housing society conducted vaccination drive for it's residents where at least 390 people received Covishield vaccines inside the society premises.

According to the residents, a facilitator identified as Rajesh Pandey, got in touch with society committee members who claimed to be a representative of Kokilaben Ambani Hospital. The vaccination camp was co-ordinated by one Sanjay Gupta, while a third person, Mahendra Singh, collected the money in cash from the residents of the society. After the drive was completed, the residents did not receive any messages. The vaccination certificates were from different hospitals like Nanavati, Lifeline, Nesco BMC vaccination center etc. As a result, the police had started an investigation after a complaint was lodged by the residents.

Mumbai Police has detained two people in coonection with the fake vaccination drive.
