In the first covid lockdown people were promised to electricity bill waiver during the first lockdown, due to which they did not pay their bills. However, MSEDCL had launched a massive recovery drive to recover the increased electricity bills from them as soon as the lockdown was over. Now, after the end of the second lockdown, MSEDCL has ordered the authorities to launch a recovery drive from tomorrow to recover the outstanding bills.

Many people lost their jobs in the lockdown. During this period, people received high elctricty bills. In addition, the people had also avoided paying the bills as the government had announced electricity bill waiver.

The political atmosphere in the state was heated when MSEDCL suddenly started recovery. At the same time, the employees had to bear the wrath of the people. Sometimes the electricity meter was turned off and sometimes the DP was turned off for recovery.

Recovery will resume from tomorrow and customers have not paid their bills even in the second lockdown. MSEDCL has arrears of Rs 6,334 crore from last year till May 2021. Rs 4,099 crore in 2020-20, Rs 849 crore in April 2021 and Rs 1,386 crore in May 2021. MSEDCL is in crisis due to power generation and interest burden on loans and officials have been told that recovery of electricity bills is necessary. As a result, the decision to start recovery from tomorrow has been taken at the local level. As a result, recovery of electricity bills in the state will start from tomorrow.
