A young man was brutally beaten by a mob on Friday night for posting an Instagram story related to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Aurangzeb. The incident took place around 8:30 p.m. in Raj Mohalla. Gangakhed police registered a case against eight accused later that night. Timely intervention by the police helped prevent communal tensions in the city.
According to the complaint filed by 22-year-old Avinash Uma Khavde, a resident of Nagreshwar Galli, he had posted a story on Instagram about Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Aurangzeb around 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Later that night, a group of youths confronted him near Mahadev Temple in Raj Mohalla, tore his shirt, and assaulted him. Shivabhaiyya Tole, who tried to intervene, was also slapped. The mob included around 20 to 25 people.

As news of the altercation spread, rumors of communal tensions in the Nagreshwar Galli area surfaced. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police and Station In-Charge Rishikesh Shinde, along with Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dilip Tiptarse and other officers, rushed to the spot. Additional Superintendent of Police Yashwant Kale also visited the city and appealed for peace.
Based on Khavde’s complaint, police registered a case against Ayan Rizwan Faizal of Raj Mohalla and seven others. Assistant Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Shinde is personally overseeing the investigation. The city remains calm following the incident.
