Maharashtra: BJP holds state-wide protest for OBC quota today
The BJP launched a statewide agitation against the Thackeray government today, demanding caste-wise census of OBCs, undoing reservations in political and other spheres and districts, otherwise leave power and keep OBCs' reservations intact. BJP workers and OBC leaders took to the streets in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Beed, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Aurangabad and Nashik.
In Mumbai, under the leadership of Ashish Shelar and Manoj Kotak, BJP has started Chakkajam agitation near Mulund toll plaza. Against the backdrop of the OBC agitation, a large contingent of police has been deployed in various parts of the state. Ashish Shelar and BJP workers have started chanting slogans against the Thackeray government by sitting on the road near Mulund toll plaza.
An agitation will be organized in Pune under the leadership of BJP leader Pankaja Munde. In Parli, Pritam Munde will lead the movement. BJP has launched a ‘jail bharo’ protests demanding the restoration of the 27% political reservation for the OBC community. In this, Around 100,000 workers will hold the ‘jail bharo’ andolan in the state on June 26.
Due to the Thackeray government's denial, the political reservation of the OBC community has been canceled. Therefore, even if hundreds of BJP workers are arrested today, it doesn't matter. But the government should wake up. Until the political reservation of OBCs is restored, we will intensify our role day by day, "said Ashish Shelar.
"The OBC community lost the reservation owing to the negligence of the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA (Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi) government. BJP has decided to protest against this government,” said state BJP chief Chandrakant Patil.
On the other hand, BJP workers have also staged a protest in the Mantralaya area. BJP leader Girish Mahajan has participated in this march. There is a huge outrage in the OBC community today. OBC's political reservation has been canceled due to lack of consensus in the government, said Girish Mahajan.
