Maharashtra: Class 1 to 9 School Exams Extended Till April 25, Disrupting Holiday Plans for Parents and Teachers

The annual exams for students in grades 1 to 9, which are typically completed by April 15, will now be extended until April 25 this year. This change has disrupted the summer travel plans of parents and teachers who had already made arrangements to visit their native places. To ensure uniformity in exam schedules across all schools and make the best use of available time for academic purposes, the state government has decided to hold exams from April 8 to April 25. In a directive issued to all relevant departments, State Education Deputy Director Rajani Rawde emphasized the need for a cohesive schedule.

If exams were concluded by early April, student attendance would be insufficient during the later part of the school year. As a result, the government has decided to schedule exams earlier than usual, from April 8 to April 25, providing both students and teachers ample time for study and practice sessions. This new schedule aims to benefit all parties involved, as explained by Sachindra Pratap Singh, Commissioner of the Education Department, Maharashtra. However, the new exam dates have caused difficulties for parents and teachers who had made travel plans for mid-April. They had already booked train and bus tickets for trips starting from April 15, as stated by Vijay Kombe, State President of the Maharashtra State Primary Teachers' Association.
