Maharashtra: Excise Department registers 1221 cases & seize liquor worth Rs 2.82 cr amid lockdown
Maharashtra Excise Department has registered 1221 cases & seized liquor worth Rs 2.82 crores during the Coronavirus 21 day lockdown. 472 people have been arrested till now and 36 vehicles carrying illegal liquor have also been seized, said Kantilal Umap, Maharashtra Excise Commissioner.
Because of the lockdown supply of alcohol have pushed the sellers, who have old stock, to charge exorbitant prices for a bottle of liquor. They are selling them at double prices in the black market.
The coronavirus pandemic has taken lives of many globally and is been on a rapid rise in India. The government on March 25 imposed a nation-wide lockdown to curb the spread of virus. During the lockdown, the government has ensured that people don't face problems buying essential commodities and services.
