The Maharashtra government approved a budget of Rs 100 crore on Thursday for the installation of 200 LED hoardings across government properties. The move is expected to generate an annual revenue of Rs 25-30 crore through rental income, according to officials.
The decision was made during a meeting of the High Authority Committee, chaired by the state's chief secretary, officials added. A statement from the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR) noted that if a private agency is granted the advertisement display rights for these LED screens, it could generate additional revenue through royalties.
The initiative will comply with current government policies, including the e-tendering process for selecting the agency. The DGIPR will oversee the project to ensure it adheres to financial standards and regulations. The selected agency will be responsible for maintaining and updating the software, implementing a comprehensive monitoring system, and managing legal and tax matters. Funding for the project will be sourced from the advertising budget of the General Administration Department.
